2020 Classes and Events
We have so many cool classes and events coming up this year, that I just had to take a few minutes to tell you guys the highlights.
This summer is our 7th Annual Great Lakes Foragers Gathering, June 11-14 in Brooklyn. This is one of the largest gatherings of foragers in the country, with over 25 instructors teaching everything from plant walks to cooking classes to bushcrafting and wildcrafting. This is a family-friendly event with classes for all ages and experience levels. Last year we sold out, so don't wait until the last minute to register.
We will also be teaching 3 small group camps this summer. These camps are designed to be intensive, with a lot of one one-on-one instructor-student interaction. Mushroom Camp, in mid-May, covers many of the basics of mushroom anatomy and ID, as well as mushroom ecology and cultivation. Microbe Camp, in early July, will introduce you to the basics of fermentation using wild yeasts. And Bushcraft Camp, in late July, teaches essential backwoods skills including foraging, fire, and shelter.
In addition, we are offering our online Foraging 101 class again this year. This class is designed to help you learn to become a confident, independent forager on your own time and in your own backyard. The course runs April-October and consists of 7, 1-month long Modules covering a variety of topics. Last year was our first year offering this online course and it was a huge success, dramatically increasing the skills and knowledge of the participants.
And, of course, we will have plant walks, lectures, and day classes. Check out our upcoming events page often for updates.
